Facts checked 4 Oct 2026 · wording is a draft for the copy team.
Retreat Guru is an established marketplace where people find and book yoga, meditation, healing and wellness retreats, paying a deposit on the site. hosted/trips is a new listing site for all kinds of hosted trips, where travellers find a trip and then book directly with its host. hosted/trips is launching soon, no date set.
At a glance
| Retreat Guru | hosted/trips | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it's for | People looking for transformative retreats · retreat centers and teachers who want to reach them. [1] | Travellers looking for a trip with a named host · hosts who want to send travellers to their own booking page. |
| Kinds of trip | Yoga and meditation · plant medicine · healing and recovery · health and wellness · online, luxury, women's, couples and spiritual retreats. [1] | Retreats · workshops · group trips · cruises · event trips · camps and gatherings · road trips. |
| How travellers book | On Retreat Guru: "Book Now," fill in a registration form, pay a deposit, then the host confirms. [2] | On the host's own site. hosted/trips takes no bookings or payments from travellers. |
| How hosts pay | Free to list. A commission on each marketplace booking, set out in their host terms and booking-fee help page. [3] [4] [5] | Free while we launch. Afterwards a flat monthly fee paid up front (price not set). No commission. Founding members of The Hosting Guild list free (conditions apply). |
| Paid placement | No paid placement option is described on the pages we checked. Their terms say they may edit a listing (for example its title) with the intent "to increase visibility, appeal, and ranking." [5] | Sponsored spots, if offered later, are always labeled. The regular list is ordered by soonest booking-closing date; travellers can re-sort by earliest, latest, price. Clicks never change the order. |
| Price rules for hosts | A "lowest price guarantee": a host listing an item there "is not allowed to list that item for a lower price elsewhere." [5] | No price rules. Hosts set their own prices on their own site. |
| Reviews | Yes. Guests are invited by email to review after their retreat, and ratings show on listings. [1] [2] | No reviews yet. |
| What the host gets | A dashboard for bookings and registrations · a guest inbox · help from a professional services team · optional retreat management software. Host analytics: not stated on their site. [3] [6] | Monthly page views and clicks for each listing. |
| Status and size | Live. Their site states 4,000+ retreats worldwide · 4,000+ centers and 10,000 teachers · 1m annual unique visitors. [1] [3] | Not live yet: launching soon, no date set. A small number of listings at launch. |
What Retreat Guru does well
- A large, established audience. Their host page cites 1m annual unique visitors, and the marketplace lists thousands of retreats from thousands of centers. [1] [3]
- Book and pay in one place. Travellers can reserve with a deposit on the site, and guests can reach a support team by email or contact form. [2]
- Reviews from past guests. Guests are invited to review after each retreat, so travellers can see how others found it. [1] [2]
- No upfront cost for hosts, plus help. Listing is free, and a professional services team helps hosts improve their listings. [3]
- Hosts are reviewed for fit. Their team reviews each application before a host joins. They also donate 1% of marketplace booking revenue to protecting the Amazon headwaters. [1] [3]
Where hosted/trips is different
- Travellers book with the host directly. hosted/trips sends you to the host's own site and takes no bookings or payments.
- A flat fee instead of a commission. Free while we launch, then a flat monthly fee paid up front. Our three promises: "We never make you charge more on your own site." · "We take no cut of your bookings, or of anything you sell your guests afterwards." · "Sponsored spots are always labeled. The regular list is never for sale."
- More than retreats. Workshops · group trips · cruises · event trips · camps and gatherings · road trips, each with a named host. Every listing is reviewed before it goes live.
- Test an idea first. With "Gauging interest," a host can test a trip idea for 90 days; interested travellers' names reach the host only if the trip goes ahead. Travellers can also sign up for trip alerts by kind, theme or place.
- What we don't have yet. No reviews yet · no on-site booking or payment protection · a small number of listings at launch · no mobile booking app.
Which might suit you
Travellers. If you want a wide choice of wellness retreats, guest reviews, and the option to reserve with a deposit in one place, Retreat Guru is built for that. If you'd rather find a hosted trip of any kind and book straight with the person running it, on their own site, hosted/trips is built for that.
Hosts. If you run wellness retreats and want access to a large existing audience, with on-site booking and reviews, and a commission per booking suits you, Retreat Guru offers that. If you want to keep every booking on your own site, set your own prices anywhere, and pay a flat fee instead of a commission, hosted/trips is designed for that, with a smaller audience while it starts out.
